The Justice Training Center

The Justice Training Center is one of the training facilities of the Office of The Sheriff located off Cochrane Road in the north part of the city of Morgan Hill along Malaguerra Avenue. It is used to be a juvenile detention facility and a school for juveniles assigned to the detention center.

The Justice Training Center is now the home of the Basic Academy for new recruits of the Sheriff’s Office. It is regulated by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) and the Standards and Training for Correction (STC) of the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC). The new Sheriff’s peace officer recruits complete either the Peace Officer Basic Core Course for Enforcement Bureau or the Adult Corrections Officer Core Course for the Custody Bureau. These basic academy training courses are administered by certified instructors and Recruit Training Officers (RTO) of the Sheriff’s Office. In addition, it is also a training center for Probation.

The existence of the Basic Academy training program at the Justice Training Center also provided additional options for outside law enforcement agencies to send their new officers.
